As we soldier on into 2021, stuck in the monotonicity of virtual learning/working, I’m sure we’re all bored. So what better way to shake off the funk with a series of fun creative writing exercises? (Tip: If your New Year’s resolution was to exercise more, this still counts!!)
- Set a timer for 10 minutes, and write using one of the following prompts. No pressure, just try to keep your pencil on the paper or your fingers on the keys for the full 10 minutes!
- What would you do if 300 mice had just gotten out of their cages in a pet shop where you worked?
- What a sad lad…
- Use your last text as the opener to your story.
- Write a story that is set within ten seconds.
- Write a story in the form of a list.
- Turn the last song you listened to into a story (if you’re not sure what that is, take your music, put it in shuffle and use the first song that comes up).
- Use this free website to complete a bunch of fun, satirical Mad Takes (similar to Mad Libs)! Simply select a topic, randomly fill in the blanks, and laugh your heart out reading!
- Start writing the first sentence of a story. Have your friend(s) fill in the next sentence. Take turns writing a sentence at a time until you complete the story!
- Write a paragraph describing the characteristics, personality, and backstory of a person using nothing more than a picture. There are some below for you!
