Sonia Birla

One of the founding members of TWS, Sonia loved teaching those initial summer camps with Srinithi, and has since been devoted to TWS and its mission. Sonia began her writing career in elementary school, filling notebooks with snippets of dialogue or her Percy Jackson (which is obviously superior to Harry Potter) fanfiction. Since then, she has published various short stories, enjoys writing for independent organizations, loves her journal, and has discovered a love of sharing her knowledge with younger students. Sonia is attending UNC Charlotte as part of the Levine Scholars Program, a full-ride merit scholarship, ready to carry her love of writing to her college campus.

On campus, Sonia is triple-majoring in Finance, Operations and Supply Chain Management, and International Studies. She is the Activities Coordinator of the Global Business Brigades on campus, helping her student organization fundraise for their service trip to Panama. She is also working on an independent research project with the Charlotte Teachers Institute, studying racial equity curriculums in Charlotte-Mecklenburg County. Outside of school, Sonia is a creative at heart. She loves designing (and editing this website!), photography, film-making, discussing politics, and hiking.
